Called S197 internally, the fifth-generation Mustang launched for 2005 with a heritage-laced design, a new platform, and an available 24-valve V8 engine. Production ended in 2014.
Ford rekindled ties with Shelby to transform what was envisioned as a replacement for the Mustang Cobra into a 21st-century GT500. Massive power, huge brakes, and heritage-laced styling cues were part of the package. 6,153 units of the GT500 coupe were built for 2008, according to Ford.
